There are plenty of ways to customize a deck, and the limitations are mainly your creativity and your budget. In today’s blog article, we are going to talk about both shelter options and heating options for your deck.
Shelter
If you need some shelter from sun on your deck, then the most common solution is an umbrella. Umbrellas come in all shapes (yes!) and sizes, and they will last for years. Just remember to close an umbrella if high winds are expected.
Another possibility for shelter is a small arbour. The advantage of an arbour is that you can have something sweet smelling growing on your arbour which will increase the shade and shelter, like a vining rose, for example. It is also possible to put some kind of roof on the deck that allows sun but shelters from rain.
Heating
Heating for a deck can be simple or complicated. A fire feature will be spectacular, but it also has to meet the building code requirements of your jurisdiction and will likely have a permanent placement.
Vertical propane heaters are less expensive and can be moved around as needed. Something simple like a wind break or privacy screen can make parts of the deck warmer than others. Infrared heaters are very effective when aimed at the spot you want to heat.
